Twiggy's anti-ageing make-up tips

1. Base

‘The little foundation I use, I blend in around my nose, mouth and across my cheeks. Then I smooth a bit extra under my eyes and over my lids. My skin's dry, so I need a light but creamy texture.'

2. Powder

‘Unless I'm doing a shoot, I use only a tiny bit of fine, translucent powder to blot my nose, cheeks and eyelids. I think my skin looks fresher and less liney with a bit of shine. You've got to work around your lines as you get older.'

3. Eyeshadow

‘Mostly it's grey on my lids and brown in my socket lines, but I also love lavenders and navy. For a wide-eyed look, I blend colour outwards from the lid centre, then add a touch under my lower lashes.'

4. Mascara

‘I don't always wear mascara, but when I do, I curl my lashes. As you get older, your lashes get shorter - curling them opens up your eyes and gives them a lift. I heat my curler first with a hairdryer - but be careful, it can get very hot. Always test it on your hand first.'

5. Kohl pencil

‘I have purple, bright blue, turquoise and teal green as well as black. I trace it along my inner rims - the pencil must be soft and gentle. The look is less harsh than conventional eyeliner and makes my eye colour "pop".'

6. Blusher

‘I like a slight flush - it makes my skin look healthy and my eyes bright. A classic pinky-rose looks most natural, but if I'm wearing dark colours I use a warmer, more reddish tone.'

7. Lip and brow pencil

‘I use the same, mid-brown pencil on both my lips and eyebrows. Your lips thin with age and need shaping, but most lip pencils are too red and obvious. I don't like a heavy brow look, but I do extend them outwards - a gentle arch lifts your eyes and softens your look.'

8. Lip tint

‘I don't wear heavy lipstick, just a neutral shade and a bit of gloss. Dark lipstick is a great look, but it can be ageing and can feather into the wrinkles around your lips. Also, I wear lots of eye colour, so strong lips are a no-no.'
