Why are there white spots on my nails?
Worried about white spotting on nails? Relax, it may not be a deficiency say the experts

According to Sophy Robson, Sally Hansen Nail Professional, the white spots are caused by mild trauma such as knocking or banging the nail plate against something hard. This then makes a "keratin bruise" which is like an air pocket within the layers of the nail plate. If it was a sign of deficiency of calcium or zinc, then it would be on every nail at the same time.
We are more prone to them down near the cuticle where the matrix is, and the new softer, weaker skin cells form", adds Andrea Fulerton, nail technician to the stars, "so that's why they seem to more commonly appear in the middle of nail bed and take some four to six months to grow out".
