Chocolate biscuits
Ingredients
225g/8oz unsalted butter, at room temperature (we used Lurpak, 99p for 250g, available at most supermarkets)
75g/3oz icing sugar, sieved
225g/8oz plain flour, sieved
½tsp baking powder
2tbsp cocoa powder, sieved (we used Green & Black’s Organic Cocoa, £1.49 for 125g, from supermarkets)
few drops vanilla extract
1-2tbsp milk
50g/2oz plain chocolate, melted for topping (optional)
Melt-in-the-mouth chocolate biscuits – these ones are definitely for the grown-ups!

Method
1. Preheat oven to gas mark 5/190ºC (180ºC in a fan oven). In a bowl, cream butter and icing sugar together with an electric whisk till pale and fluffy. Beat in flour, baking powder, cocoa powder and vanilla extract with enough milk to form a fairly soft dough. Chill to firm.2. With damp hands, roll into walnut-sized balls and place on a lined baking sheet. Flatten slightly with a wet fork, then bake for about 20 mins, till just firm to touch. Cool completely on a cooling rack. Serve as they are or drizzle with melted chocolate.
