Christmas crumble
Ingredients
400g eating apples or firm pears
500g mincemeat
zest and juice of one unwaxed orange
100g plain flour
50g roughly chopped walnuts
75g brown sugar
50g butter, cubed
This easy crumble is so irresistibly good that it is sure to make return appearances far into the New Year.

Method
1 Peel, core and roughly chop the apples or pears. Combine the fruit with the mincemeat, zest and juice of the orange and mix well. Spoon into a 1-litre oven-proof dish.
2 Combine the flour, walnuts, sugar and butter and process or rub with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Scatter the crumble mixture over the mincemeat and bake in a preheated oven, 200ºC (400ºF) gas mark 6 for 40 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling. Serve with oodles of cream or top-quality vanilla ice cream.
