Food swaps to cut cals
Which bacon breakfast?
SWAP Bacon roll (white bap, butter, 4 rashers of streaky bacon), 421 calories, 27g fat
FOR Bacon roll (granary bap, 3 rashers of back bacon, tomato ketchup, no butter), 313 calories, 14g fat
WHY? Streaky bacon is very fatty, yet the meat does provide protein and iron. By using three extra-trimmed back rashers instead of four streaky rashers, you’ll cut out 63 calories and 7g fat, while ditching the butter saves 75 calories and 8g fat. Swapping your white roll to a granary one adds an extra gram of fibre towards the daily recommendation of 24g. Adding a dollop of tomato ketchup gives an added health boost. Packed with lycopene, it’s linked with lower rates of prostate cancer.
