Some like it hot!
Toss new potatoes in sunflower oil, with crushed cumin seeds, coriander seeds and chilli flakes. Roast in a hot oven till tender and serve with plain yogurt mixed with mint sauce and crushed garlic.

Rollmops and gherkins
Cook new potatoes in boiling, salted water till tender, then drain and cool. Mix together chopped dill, chopped rollmop herrings, chopped gherkins, chopped beetroot, capers and lemon mayonnaise. Add sliced potatoes and combine.

Olive oil
Thinly slice potatoes, toss with olive oil, salt, freshly ground black pepper, rosemary, thyme and whole unpeeled cloves garlic. Spread on a baking sheet and roast in a hot oven till golden brown.

Olives
Add sun-blush tomatoes, olives and parsley to a light vinaigrette. Pour over cooked new potatoes while warm.

Sage
Cook new potatoes in a tin-foil parcel with butter, sea salt and fresh herbs, such as lemon thyme, sage or rosemary. Roast in a hot oven for about 30 mins, till tender.
Make a cheesy meal of it

Feta cheese
Boil new potatoes till tender. Drain and return to pan. Lightly crush to break them up then spread onto a baking tray. Drizzle with olive oil and roast till turning golden. Crumble over some feta and pop back in the oven till cheese turns golden brown.
Hit the barbecue!

Barbecue
Parboil potatoes for 5 mins, drain and cool. Thread on sturdy rosemary sprigs, then brush with oil and put on hot barbecue grill. Cook for 10 mins, turning once, till soft and charred. Slide potatoes off rosemary skewers and serve with barbecued meats and salads. Perfect.
Whip up a one-pan breakfast

Eggs
Halve baby new potatoes and fry in a splash of vegetable oil for 5 mins. Once brown and crispy, add a handful of cherry tomatoes or some sliced mushrooms. Fry till soft, then push veg aside to make two wells. Break two eggs into the wells and fry till cooked. Slide under grill to cook top of the eggs, if preferred. Tip out of pan and divide between two plates.

Asparagus
For a speedy summer salad, take some cooked new potatoes and reheat on a hot griddle pan. Throw on some asparagus tips and griddle for 2-3 mins till cooked. Remove from heat and pile onto serving platter with strips of smoked ham. Mix 2tbsp pesto with 1tbsp olive oil and drizzle over the salad.
