Cornish pasties: the ultimate recipe
Delicious, nutritious, cheap: a pasty is a pre-packed ready meal, easy to eat on the go and a truly 21st-century convenience food. But not all fast food is the same...
There's simply no comparison between a shrink-wrapped pasty' (bland, glutinous and full of additives) bought from, say, a motorway service station, and the real deal, steaming hot out of the oven, preferably made in Cornwall itself. At St Ives Bakery, every pasty is made by hand and cooked on the premises, using only the best ingredients, many of them local. They are, quite simply, mouthwateringly good - buttery pastry, melt-in-the-mouth meat, a light and tasty seasoning. Take one round the corner to the Harbour beach and munch it while listening to the gulls and paddling in the waves. Heaven.
