New vegetable on the block PLUS recipe
What do you get if you mix sprouts and kale? A wonderful new vegetable that's fabulous in a hotpot
Behold - a new vegetable! If you visit your local Marks & Spencer vegetable shelves round about now, you'll see a knobbly purply-green
new vegetable that's a cross between sprouts and kale. M&S had a problem, though... What to call it! They enlisted the help of Good Housekeeping readers via allaboutyou.com - and you didn't disappoint in your creative (sometimes wild!) suggestions. Flower sprouts was the winning name suggestion from lucky Pam Johnson who has won a £200 gift card from M&S. Flower sprouts are wonderful steamed or stir-fried; or try them in this hotpot recipe to serve 4, created by Good Housekeeping home economist Meike Beck...
Peel, deseed and cube 1 butternut squash. In a large pan, heat 1tbsp
olive oil and gently fry 2 peeled, finely chopped shallots for 5min. Turn up the heat, add squash and 100g (3½oz) skinned, cubed chorizo. Cook for 5min, stirring. Stir in 2 crushed garlic cloves and ½ finely chopped red chilli. Cook for 1min. Pour in 750ml (1¼ pints) hot chicken stock; simmer for 5min until squash is nearly tender. Add 200g (7oz) trimmed flower sprouts and a 410g tin drained, rinsed cannellini beans. Cook for 5min until vegetables are tender. Check seasoning, stir in a handful of chopped parsley and serve.
