Money no object
Scutchers of Long Melford, £8.95 for 100g inc p&p
(01787 310200; www.smokedsalmonbypost.net)
Thin, delicate, brightly coloured slices. Lovely balance of smoke and salt flavours.
Mid-range
H Forman & Son London Cure Smoked Scottish Salmon, £9.50 for 250g
(020 8525 2352; www.formanandfield.com)
Thin and delicate. Our testers liked the large slices and subtle, not too-salty, smoky flavour.
Strapped for cash
Aldi Almare Seafood Sliced Smoked Scottish Salmon, £2.59 for 200g
Pale pink and thickly sliced with a pleasant salty flavour and strong smoky taste. The texture is soft and melt-in-the mouth but still has bite.
Unusual flavour
Marks & Spencer Irish Blackened Smoked Salmon With Stout, £4.99 for 100g
Some tasters enjoyed the slightly different flavour of these firm, chewy slices, but others found the richness and meaty texture strange.
Organic choice
Daylesford Organic Scottish Smoked Organic Salmon, £9.95 for 200g
(01608 731700; www.daylesfordorganic.com)
A pale salmon that comes in long, thin slices, this has a subtle smoky and salty flavour.
