Q What will you have for breakfast on the morning of your first event?
Larry says:
Probably cereal – cornflakes with milk and a chopped banana. No caffeine allowed as it mucks around with the body’s hydration levels and it makes me go to the loo a lot! I don’t do caffeine anyway – everything’s decaf for me. When I’m training I tend to eat little and often, rather than tucking into a big meal. I’ll have Nature’s Valley bars every hour after that and a glass of squash.

Q Share your signature dish with us…
Larry says:
Well, I don’t have much time to cook, but if I have to rustle something up it’s a classic lasagne. But I do a different topping. After sprinkling the grated cheese on top, I bash up a couple of bags of cheese and onion crisps and scatter them over. It gives the top a good crust and makes it really crunchy.

Q Who's your favourite celebrity chef?

Larry says:
Gordon Ramsay – because he’s so funny. I laugh every second I’m watching him. I think he’s a cool bloke. He looks real and he doesn’t take any nonsense. He strives for perfection and doing a job well, which I admire, then pulls up other chefs if they’re not doing it right. I like that.

Q: What's your favourite restaurant?
Larry says:
The Cowshed in Bristol. They do the best cuts of meat I’ve ever tasted – and I’ve been to quite a few restaurants around the world. They take great care in sourcing the best local ingredients. I always order a fillet steak – with chips on the side. I love the way they cook it, done very simply, just as it should be.

Q: Tell us your guilty foodie secret..
Larry says:
It’s got to be Haribos, those fruit-flavoured chewy sweets. I shouldn’t be eating them but I do. I snack on those after taking part in a competition. When it’s over I treat myself to a couple to celebrate.
