Honeybuns by Emma Goss-Custard
Emma Goss-Custard believes that gluten-free cooking can be every bit as tasty as 'normal' cooking - and of course, it's relatively healthy and slimming. You'll need to shop around a bit for some of the ingredients (like sorghum and millet flour) but if the result is bloat-free brownies, it's worthwhile, especially when they turn out as delicious as the ones in this book.

A Girl and Her Pig by April Bloomfield
Jamie Oliver is a big April Bloomfield fan and we can see why. April (who set up the Spotted Pig, the Breslin and the John Dory restaurants) is revered by chefs for her hearty, gutsy British/Italian food. You might assume from the title of this cookbook that all the recipes are for pork - they're not. She includes recipes for meats and poultry, seafood and plenty of vegetarian dishes too. Interspersed with the recipes are lovely reflections about how April became a professional foodie. She does get seriously cheffy with some wild recipes like pig's ear salad but there are lots of down-to-earth crowd-pleasing recipes too, including traditional cabbage and bacon and sausage-stuffed onions.
