What's the best exercise for you?
Take the quick quiz and find out. By Nicola Joyce
Exercise can have a huge impact on our mental and physical well-being. According to Louise Jones, sports psychologist at www.thought4sport.com, stepping outside our comfort zone can also help to boost confidence. ‘Many GPs now prescribe exercise for depression and anxiety, and it’s easy to see why,’ she says. ‘Physical activity releases brain chemicals, including endorphins, serotonin and dopamine, which increase our energy levels and ability to manage stress. The great thing is that, the more physical activity you do, the better you will feel about yourself.’

Take the challenge of solo pursuits like running or a team sport like netball or badminton. You could join a club for coaching, events and camaraderie. Did you know we burn the same number of calories per mile (around 100) whether walking, jogging or running? Consult your GP, then go for it!
