Fashion and beauty Q&A: cosmetic brushes

On the hunt for a good cosmetic brush? Read what our expert has to say

woman make up brush

Is it really necessary to splash-out on cosmetic brushes to make the most of my make-up? Which ones do professionals use?

Quality brushes allows you to apply make-up with complete control to achieve a professional finish. They're more hygienic and gentle than fingers and reduce wastage as a brush blends and spreads the product further -which will also cut your application time in half.

While brushes are individual to your make-up needs, there's one must-have tool no woman can afford to live without. A foundation brush is an essential investment as it helps achieve a flawless finish and can also double as a powder, blusher and bronzer brush too.

If you wear eyeshadow then I suggest three brushes - a flat, tightly packed natural bristle brush to apply colour, a fluffy natural bristle brush to blend and soften the edges plus a flat brush to define the eyes near the lash line. Also, always use a lip brush for deep or bright colours to ensure the application is even and crisp at the edges.
