Fabulous hair at any age - celebrity hairstyles
If you’ve had the same hairstyle for decades, it’s time to shake up your style. Our favourite celebrities always look sleek, groomed and modern, so we asked the experts to reveal just how these celebrity hairstyles can be copied. By Jess Henley
Helena Christensen: celebrity hairstyle30s: Chop and change
Celebrity hairstyle: Helena Christensen
Your 30s are your chance to experiment – as long as the style and colour suit your skin tone and face shape. “But do look after the condition of your hair with regular trims and intensive conditioning treatments,” advises Leo Bancroft, celebrity hair stylist and TRESemmé spokesperson. “Keeping it glossy always helps you look younger.”
Choose a treatment containing silk aminos and protein extracts as they will help repair hair, restoring its strength and shine. If you want to wear your hair long, like Helena, keep it looking healthy and prevent split ends by having it trimmed every six to eight weeks.

Ask for a cut with soft layers and a long fringe, just short enough to be out of your eyes. “Fringes are great accessories and can work on all face shapes,” says top hairstylist Andrew Barton. “Helena has an oblong face with a square jawline so, for her, it is better to keep the fringe on the longer side.”
To get her great tousled look, just mix together a small blob of Andrew Barton Shiny Happy Hair Frizz Tamer, £3.95, and Andrew Barton Gloss Boss Ultra Shine Serum, £4.95, and work it through wet hair evenly – right to the ends – to accentuate the layers. Blow-dry your fringe with a round brush such as Trevor Sorbie Radial Brush, £8. Get Helena’s sleek finish by booking in for a vegetable gloss – available at most salons – which uses vegetable extracts to enhance natural colour and increase shine.
Elle MacPherson - celebrity hairstyle40s: Keep it sleek
By the time you hit your forties, you’ll probably know what style suits you, so increase your focus on colour and condition. Grey hairs are, most likely, becoming more prominent, so try Clairol Nice’n Easy Permanent Colour, £4.99, at home. “But if your hair is no more than 30 per cent grey, it’s best to go for a natural look with highlights, low lights or a semi-permanent colour,” says Leo Bancroft.
Never put off having your roots done, it can look drab and really age you. At the salon, book in for regular conditioning treatments such as Kérastase Enriched Nourishing Ritual, from £15, to replenish and repair. And use an intensive conditioner like Phyto Phytodensium Anti-Ageing Mask, £18.50, at home once a week to stop hair drying out, plus the colour protector TRESemmé Vitamin E and Aloe Colour Lock Leave In Conditioning Spray, £3.99.

Apply TOMMYGUNS Miraculous Volumising Mousse, £6.49, on towel-dried hair then blast with your hair dryer to find the right parting. Wrap hair around medium-sized tongs through mid-lengths and ends in random sections. “But don’t tong up to the roots if you want to keep sleekness through the top,” says Chi Wong, top session stylist for TOMMYGUNS. Fix with Paul Labrecque Volume Finish All Day Holding Mist, £12.
Ask for three to four shades of blonde – champagne to caramel – and make sure it’s darker nearer the parting, like Elle’s. Also, mix the size of weaves to create a natural look. Use John Frieda Sheer Blonde Colour Renew Shampoo and Conditioner, £4.49 each, to banish unwanted yellow tones and keep your hair looking fresh and bouncy.
