Comfort Prima High Street Fashion Awards 2009
Celebrities mingled with Prima readers at the annual glittering fashion event. By Prima’s Lorraine Conway
Maire Fahey, Lulu, Jeff BanksBeverley Knight, Jo Wood, Andrea McLean, Brendan Cole, Lulu and Suranne Jones were among the stars who attended this year's Comfort Prima High Street Fashion Awards. Prima readers mingled with famous faces for an evening of glamour, in celebration of the great British high street.
The evening began with a glitzy Champagne reception, where readers and celebrities showed off their stunning party wear. Guests were pampered with manicures courtesy of Nails Inc, makeovers from Bare Escentuals, and hair styling by La Coupe from QVC, while Colour Me Beautiful provided mini colour consultations.
Guests were then treated to a show-stopping performance from dance troupe and Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity. The talented group flipped and jumped across the stage to whoops and cheers of excitement.
The evening celebrated natural beauty, with a beautiful floral theme inspired by Comfort Naturals range. Tables were graced with fresh flowers shaped like handbags, flower jewellery and hats, all created by Writtle College. In keeping with the theme, guests were delighted to see some iconic natural beauties like Lulu, who at 60 looked fantastic in a sparkly Chanel jacket and New Look shoes, proving that even the big stars love the high street. The delicious three-course meal had a floral theme, and was finished off with a classic British cheese board, wine by Chamarre and irresistible Thornton's chocolate.
A fashion show followed, showcasing some of best new trends hitting the high street this season, and then Prima's Editor Maire Fahey took to the stage with co-host Jeff Banks to announce the winners of the Comfort Prima High Street Fashion Awards 2009.
Among the announcements was the winner of Prima's Woman of Courage Award, with Breakthrough Breast Cancer. The four nominees were Ros Marsh, Annie Dewberry, Emily Holt and Val Paradine. Sadly Val Paradine passed away in August, losing her battle with breast cancer. Her husband Kevan and daughter Leanda were there to celebrate Val's amazing achievement. The winner was Ros Marsh, who continues to battle stage four bone cancer, while working tirelessly to raise money and awareness of this devastating disease.
In total 21 awards were presented to our favourite high street stores, with Next picking up the coveted High Street Retailer of the Year award. With the awards complete, celebrities and readers strutted their stuff on the dance floor, while others enjoyed delicious cocktails in the lovely inside-out garden.
