Lulu's look-good beauty and fitness tips
The eternally youthful singer shares her fitness and beauty secrets with beauty expert Trish Lesslie
At 60, singing legend Lulu has the kind of clear, line-free complexion, slim figure and boundless energy that would be the envy of women half her age. Here's how she keeps looking and feeling her best...
The simple way to great skin
‘My secret to great looking skin is a daily cleansing routine. It's important to have a routine as it saves time. In the morning, I always splash my face with water and apply my Time Bomb day cream and eye cream.
A gentle exfoliating cleanser is great for more mature skins as it brightens the complexion. At night, I apply cleanser to damp skin and gently buff my skin with one of my Take Off Time Polishing Pads, then apply night cream. I've got the whole thing down to five minutes.'
Get your colour right
‘Your skin tone often changes with age and seasons, and getting the right make-up match is essential if you want a flawless look.
I am a huge fan of Myface cosmetics, as products are categorised into skin-tone shades, making it easy to find a perfect match. Shades of pale-pink lipstick flatter older skin as they help give the complexion a soft focus glow.
Try to set some time aside to relax with a face mask but I would recommend exfoliating before applying as this helps the mask penetrate your skin and will leave your complexion looking and feeling softer, smoother and dewy fresh. My Time Bomb Face to Face Masks are fab as they are mess free, easy to use and so soothing on the skin.'
Choose the right cut
‘The right layers can give your hair shape, body and bounce. Just make sure your stylist doesn't cut them too short on top as this is unflattering and can be very ageing.
Also, if your hair is going grey, avoid lots of layers throughout as they can make wiry strands more stubborn and unruly.'
Eat to stay in shape
‘It's hard trying to be good all the time. I try not to skip a meal as it makes me feel awful and I always have breakfast as this kick starts my metabolism. If I ever get peckish between meals, I tend to pick on some protein such as chicken as it helps me feel full, plus it's essential for healthy skin, hair and nails.
I steer clear of carbs like pasta and bread after 6pm and drink plenty of water everyday to help keep my complexion clear.'
Mix up your exercise routine
‘I love to keep fit and work out in different ways to help keep me motivated throughout my busy schedule. If you can't get to the gym, try a few exercises around the house like jogging up and down the stairs, tricep dips using a dining chair as your dipping bench and squats while watching your favourite soap. I also love to go to salsa dance classes - they're a great way to meet people and stay in great shape at the same time.
Learn to balance work and play
‘It's so important to make sure life is full of fun and happiness. I work hard but I play hard too and this is what keeps me feel young and alive! I set time aside to socialise with friends and family, whether it is staying in and catching up or going out for lunch with girlfriends.'
