On test: makeup removers
We've tested out the best makeup removers around and here are the results...
AAY Reader review: Johnsons 3-in-1 Eye-make up remover, £2.99, and 3-in-1 Eye-make up remover pads, £3.99, available nationwide
I am a fan of Johnsons skincare, particularly the 3-in-1 range, as I find it delivers effective results, is affordable, doesn't irritate and is ideal for my normal but spot-prone skin. I love my mascara and often find some eye makeup removers do not remove every last bit, but both these products left my eyes totally free of make up.
I have quite sensitive eyes and my eyes were left feeling comfortable and moisturised (but not greasy), and did not sting at all as with some products I have tried. I would definitely buy these products and recommend them. I think the pads are particularly convenient and would be great for travelling but the eye make up remover lotion was probably slightly more effective at removing makeup than the pads.

Dermalogica Soothing Eye Makeup Remover, £18, 0800 591818
I am a fan of Dermalogica products, they are the brand used in my monthly facials and always leave my skin feeling moisturised and illuminated. Makeup remover is not something I have ever spent a lot of money on, but perhaps that is just because I have never found a product worth investing in, well until now that is.
This gentle gel is applied with a wet cloth and, with only a tiny amount, instantly removes stubborn eye makeup with minimal wiping. There was no stinging around the eye and tell-tale smudges were nowhere to be seen. I was also pleased that there was no greasiness as is often the case with makeup removers. Expensive yes, but a joy to use.

La Prairie Cellular Eye Makeup Remover, £30, www.beautique.com
La Prairie is renowned for its gentle, effective and luxurious skincare products and its one of those brands that I've always wanted to try. I wear eye makeup and foundation every day so a good makeup remover is an essential but it has to gentle enough for my sensitive skin.
All in all I really liked this product, mascara was easily wiped away in one go with not a hint of any smudges on the pillow (as often happens!) the next day. Given the high price tag I was pleased that only a small amount was needed but I did also notice a couple of small breakouts around my eyes so I don't think my skin is compatible with this one. If you have the budget though it's definitely worth a try.

Prescriptives Better Off makeup remover, £17, www.houseoffraser.co.uk
This make-up remover is incredibly creamy, and feels like a real treat for the skin. It's also light on the skin so it didn't feel clammy. I love the packaging - it's so deliciously white and looks so nice and non-descript on the bathroom shelf. I found that I didn't need to use as much moisturiser while using this as my skin did not feel taut after cleansing. I particularly liked using it around the eyes - it glides over this delicate area beautifully. It's pricey, but as a treat for skin I would recommend it.
