Amanda Hamilton's detox diet
Banish those post-party pounds with nutritionist Amanda Hamiltons 14-day detox
Over Christmas, 74 per cent of women put on half a stone*, but the 80 per cent of us who started a January weight-loss regime will have fallen off the wagon by Valentine's Day. But, says Amanda Hamilton: "Putting on weight is more than just a numbers game. A major factor is the amount of chemicals in food." When our bodies are overloaded with toxins, the liver is unable to function properly and, as Amanda says: "An overloaded liver is linked to cellulite, weight gain around the abdomen and bloating - a sluggish liver can actually increase weight gain." So the way to kick-start the new year is to rid your body of all that rubbish. "And this plan does that by placing a strong emphasis on supporting the liver," adds Amanda.
Consisting of three meals and two snacks a day, it begins by focusing on getting your body used to the foods on the plan. During the next stage the detoxing becomes more active, with a lot of vegetable-based meals and healthy juices, then in the final stage you start to get back to ‘normal' life. Some of the recipes can be cooked in bulk and the juices will keep in the fridge; and you should replace tea and coffee with hot water with a squeeze of lemon or lime and a teaspoon of honey if you need a bit of sweetness.
After 14 days on the plan, you should lose up to 7lb, find that your digestive system is working better, your skin is clearer, you're less bloated and you have bags of energy.
The rules
1 Keep it simple!
This detox will fit around a busy lifestyle. Batch cook where possible to make it even easier.
2 Cut out processed foods
They can contain high levels of sugar and salt, as well as all kinds of chemicals.
3 Eat fat to lose fat
Good fats are vital. Consume oily fish and nuts and seeds to boost your health.
4 Step off the stimulant cycle
Cut down on caffeine, sugar, alcohol and toxins such as cigarettes.
5 Get moving
Exercise boosts your lymphatic system - the body's waste disposal unit - and releases feelgood endorphins.
6 Boost with supplements
Liver support and digestive aids will assist your detox.
