On test: Champneys Home Foot Spa
A treat for your feet: review by James Garner
What is it?
As the name says, it's a home foot spa from the world-renowned Champneys. You sit with your feet inside it, and the machine massages your feet in a number of ways. The product's tagline says: 'treat your feet to bubbling relief'.
How does it work?
Plug the foot spa into the mains and select from infra-red heat, massaging rollers, and various bubble options - all operated by the press of a toe. Simply fill the device up to the marked line with warm water via a jug and turn on. There's no need to place the spa on a towel; it has rubber feet. Once finished, unplug and tip the unit, allowing water to spill out along the drain spouts into a sink.
What are the best things about it?
The foot spa makes an ideal Christmas gift and will feel like a real treat, especially at a time when many of us are tightening our belts when it comes to buying luxury items for ourselves. The massaging rollers are removable, giving an extensive selection of programs whether or not you choose to use the massagers. The spa works really well, and having never used something like this before I was surprised by how relaxed I became.
What are the worst things about it?
As with most foot spas, it's rather bulky. I was also surprised by how noisy it was. I don’t think it would be something you would use while watching TV as it would disturb both you and anyone else in the room. I was also a little concerned about using a wet toe on the buttons while connected to the main supply - but I guess the manufacturers thought of that.
Anything else?
As with these many types of pampering products, there is a danger that the spa may be used a couple of times, then put into a cupboard and forgotten. However, if you make the effort to use it, it is really relaxing and your feet will feel the benefit.
How much does it cost?
RRP £49.99 from all branches of Argos, Comet and John Lewis
