Vaginal lubricants: three to try
Ease vaginal dryness with products to add moisture
Women of any age can be affected by vaginal dryness, and it has many causes, including:
● lack of sexual arousal during sex, so that the vagina doesn't lubricate naturally
● use of chemicals and other products, such as harsh soaps, chemicals in swimming pool or medications such as some cold remedies
● menopause - half of post-menopausal women aged 51 to 60 suffer from vaginal dryness due to reduced oestrogen production
● hysterectomy - again, due to reduced oestrogen
● chemotherapy - this can damage ovaries, inhibiting the production of oestrogen
K-Y Jelly
Probably the best-known lubricant, K-Y Jelly has been around since 1904, when it was developed for use as a surgical lubricant. The origins of its name are a bit of a mystery. This is a water-based, non-staining gel that's free of perfume and safe to use with latex condoms. Apply the gel directly to the vaginal area or to a condom.

Yes Organic Lubricant
There are two types of Yes lubricant: oil-based and water-based, and both are organic, certified by the Soil Association, and both are hypo-allergenic. The water-based version uses plant-based ingredients including flax extract and guar gum. The oil-based includes organic plant oils, butters and beeswax. You can use the water-based lubricant with a condom (but not the oil-based). The makers suggest using water-based on top of oil-based for a 'new dimension in lavish and sustained slipperiness'! £4.99 for 25ml of oil-based or water-based; or try the introductory offer of 25ml oil-based, 25ml water-based, plus a sachet of each, an applicator for each, £9.99 from the Yes website - click here to buy it online
Replens MD Vaginal Gel
This is a long-lasting non-hormonal, oestrogen-free vaginal moisturiser to relieve vaginal dryness, itching, irritation and discomfort. It comes with a reuseable applicator to place the right amount where it's needed, high inside the vagina. It's designed to be used three times a week, to provide continuous moisture and comfort. £10.99 for 35g - click here to buy it online
