Wellbeing buy of the week: beyond the menopause book
This week's wellbeing buy: 'The Second Half of Your Life'
What is it?
Author Jill Shaw Ruddock has written a guide to the part of your life after the menopause, with advice on how to embrace this period, setting out a game plan to enable women to make this the best part of their lives. After years of caring for others, this is the time to focus on you and what you want to be. Five basic principles are explored in detail: cultivate a passion; find a purpose greater than yourself; exercise almost every day of the week; eat well; stay connected to family, friends and community.
What will it do for me?
It'll help you address the issues that may arise at this time, including sex, divorce, money matters and finding a new purpose in life. As Ruby Wax says on the cover: 'This book will make you want to run straight into the arms of menopause, embrace it and get to the best years of your life - no longer a slave to your hormones. Free at last! Free at last!
How much and where from?

Anything else?
It's written with a sense of humour, with funny quotes tucked away - I laughed aloud. The last chapter of the book, 'Women to women' is dedicated to insights into later life from notable women. And don't think it's necessarily not for you if your menopause is a few years off - like retirement, it's a life stage that you need to think about before it happens.
