Real homes: a cottage full of colour

The kitchen table, draped in a pretty green chenille cloth, is surrounded by an array of wooden chairs, which came from Ikea but have been cleverly customised with wooden drawer knobs and bright paintwork. Marc is also an advocate for what he calls ‘pinching the space', such as the book-filled alcove in one wall that extends right through into the bathroom next door, where it provides a useful shelf in what would otherwise be wasted space behind a door. Elsewhere a triangular sliding drawer for firewood has been cunningly fitted beneath the steep stairs.
