Garden furniture updates: paint, stain or varnish?

If you want to know exactly how to update garden furniture, just read the four tips below, and then get to work!

To change the colour of woven pieces, such as wicker or rattan, use a spray-on paint such as Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch (£7.98 for 400ml).

To transform plastic use Rust-Oleum Direct To Plastic (£8.49 for 400ml), in black and white. Or try Plasti-Kote Super (£6.98 for 400ml) available in a wide range of colours.

To add colour to metal use International Japlac High Gloss Enamel (£6.99, 250ml) in 12 colours. For a soft, subtle sheen fi nish there’s Farrow & Ball Exterior Eggshell (£53.50 for 2.5l).

If you want a natural finish for wood, try a stain. For colour that allows the grain to show through, try Cuprinol Garden Shades (£22.98 for 2.5l), or Ronseal Woodland Trust Colours (£17.99 for 2.5l). For a solid colour on wood, try Sadolin Superdec (£18.60 for 1l).
