Shelley von Strunckel has joined the team to predict what's in store for our readers, and explains why star sign dates vary.

Contrary to general belief, there is no single correct day on which each sign begins. Actually, the day varies somewhat.

The stars signs, don't begin at midnight, but at a specific hour. They're linked to the seasons. Aries, for example, begins at the same moment as spring (in the northern hemisphere), Libra commences on the same day - and same hour - as autumn. And that can vary considerably from year to year. Usually it's a matter of hours, but it can be as much as a day or so.

In my GH column I adjust the dates on each sign's heading to coincide with the day on which the Sun changes signs during the current year. So, for example, while in 2007, the Sun entered Aries on 21 March at 00:08 GMT, in 2008 this takes place on 20 March at 5:49 GMT.  So while 2007 columns listed Aries as commencing on the 21st, in my 2008 columns, the date is the 20th. Not all signs change every year, but there is considerable variance.

The same principle also applies to an individual's star sign. So, for example, while a baby born at 22:00 on 20 March 2007 in the UK would be a Pisces, a baby born at the same time on 20 March 2008 would be an Aries, since this year the sign begins just before 6:00.

Those who are on the edge of a sign, which is often referred to as being "on the cusp," can easily determine their star sign by having a computerised personal chart calculated. This requires the birth date, place and time - even an approximate one - and can be done through many chart services on the internet, including at my own website: www.shelleyvonstrunckel.com.
