Window to the World Award

Sarah Brown presented the Window to the World Award to Ann Cotton, a woman whose courage and determination has brought to our attention the educational deprivation of young women in Zimbabwe.

Ann created CAMFED (The Campaign for Female Education) in 1991, after she discovered that lack of financial resources was a major barrier to girls over twelve attending school. She began raising funds by baking cakes and selling them from a local market stall. Fourteen years later, she has created a £3 million charity which reaches 427,000 youngsters across Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania.
