How to... grow tomatoes
Bursting with flavour, tomatoes are perfect for the summer
● Grow bags make great impromptu containers. Simply transplant your tomatoes in May or June. Before planting, give the grow bag a good shake to break up and loosen any compacted compost it might contain.
● Tomatoes are hungry and thirsty plants, so water daily (twice daily during hot weather) and add a measure of high-potash liquid tomato feed into your watering can once a week to keep them cropping well.
● To ensure that most of the plant's energy goes into producing fruit, remove any side shoots that grow between the leaf and stem.
● Pinch out the growing tip when the tomato plant has set four or more trusses or clusters of fruit, and your tomatoes will soon begin to swell.
