Hi

How about making 'hard' icing (I think that I used glycerine) and create pretty snowflakes? I have bought some really pretty snowflake cutters this year, and you could use edible glitter to give them a little bit of sparkle.

Godd luck with it, whatever you end up doing - why not post a photo?

Hi Craftyhelen,

Thanks for that, no I had not thought of that, maybe I could incorporate them into something, I will have a look in the local icing shop.  I will post a picture eventually.  Thanks again.

Hi, for my cake, I mark out a cross on top of cake so I have four equal parts..I then use a patchwork christmas flower and emboss two parts of the cake, so I have one plain.. one pattern.. one plain ..one pattern...crimp the edges to divide  the four panels..then use lustre dust to enhance the pattern.

Hi Malron,

Thanks for that it too sounds interesting, I would love to see a picture of that, It would help give me a better idea of it, it really does sound like it could be a good effect. Thanks

As you can see I have embossed it and added glitter on sides and edges...Not being very good at cake decorating I find this very easy to do.

Posted this one because you can see the effect of the lustre dust on the pattern of the cake...this one I used small medium and large flower cutter...Christmas cake was holly, and bells. and a sprinkle of edible glitter on the plain parts of the cake.

Way back in the mists of time I think Prima did a Christmas cake with Christmas trees made in pieces which were then stuck together with egg white so that they stood up on the top of the cake.. like a forest.

Or, try making the shape of a lantern out of the cake and decorate accordingly
