As most of you know, I was going to a talk last night at a neighbouring WI given by Sadie the Bra Lady. She is such a popular speaker they had to book her a year ahead.

What an engaging and funny woman, she talked for an hour and a half and kept us interested and entertained. Not a bra in sight (well she showed us one -  a size K cup). She wasn't there to sell, in fact you have to be fitted in her shops before you can buy one. She asked for a volunteer to be fitted last night; she doesn't use an inch tape, just looks and knows what size you are - I don't know how she does it but the lady was so impressed she bought the bra there and then. Sadie is well know in the NE and won numerous awards country- wide and has customers world-wide;  she was given the name by a radio DJ many years ago on a phone-in programme and it sort of stuck.

She also explained why 80% of us are wearing the wrong sized bra; the original bra of over 100 years ago was made without elastic and had no stretch anywhere  but although the material has changed over the years, the method of sizing has not. She has her own size chart if any of you would like to check it out and read a bit more about her go to www.sadiethebralady.co.uk   I could not believe she is 72, she looks 20 years younger and as fit as a flea.

I could do with a consultation with her Ipi, I have had 3 measures by M&S, Debenhams, and an independant, and all 3 came up with a different size!! So how are we to get the right when the Supposed Proffessionals get it wrong.

I have never heard of her before. Does or has she worked in a shop or retail outlet during her career?

           Hugs to all Cathy xx

Hi Ipi,

Sounds like you had a night, and a good giggle.

I have been fitted by a lady from Ripley&Peller, and she didnt use a tape to measure me, she just looked and said you are a 40h, I thought she was mad, I was wearing a 44dd from M&S, but goodness the difference....I walked out of there like a new women, boobs where they should be, and only 2 of them.LOL

Sounds like an interesting evening, Ipi. Not the raunchy one we thought, naughty girls!

So many of us don't get fitted properly which is such a shame as it doesn't make the best of our "assets", & can be very uncomfortable. But if you get fitted in, say, M&S, the size isn't necessarily right elsewhere as you say, Cathy.

I spent years hiding under minimising bras & baggy t shirts until a lovely older lady I know took me in hand after my separation. She took me to M&S & had me fitted & we had a great laugh with me jumping in & out fitting room saying "is this lacy enough?" & "is this enough cleavage?". A lot of it is to do with confidence & if you feel confident with the shape & support, it makes such a difference

She has 4 shops in the NE and has been going since the 70's LC. Started off selling dresses when she noticed the bust on the dresses was higher than where women's boobs were so that got her into bras; now all she does is underwear.  She tells you a bit about herself on the website, and how to measure your correct size. She is very friendly now with HRH's corsetiere who I think is from Rigby & Pellar (Bideshi's favourite make).

You are so right Ros, getting the correct bra fitted can make you look a lot more shapely; she told of several women getting bras from her while waiting for breast reductions. After they were fitted they were so much happier with their new shape they didn't have the op.

I was the opposite Mumsie, wearing padded ones until I reached 50  - I was a late developer LOL.

I had a visual fitting in a French shop, Ipi, and the size and fit were perfect. Since then I've lost weight, and M&S sell just the right bra for me. They do the gel strap lining, too, which means no annoying tugging and shrugging.

I once bought a set of Rigby and Peller, from a dedicated undies shop. The bra straps never stayed up, and the cups were too low cut.  And the supposed knickers disappeared up somewhere immodest at the slightest bend!

Every fashion guru will tell you - if the underpinning isn't right, the clothes will never fit. And posture is important too.

Glad you had a good evening. BB
