Hi Elaine, I know this is a terrible problem that lots of us have to bear.

I have used two different methods.  The first was to give my previous dog a tranquiliser in the afternoon.  The problem is that like humans every dog has a different tolerance to sedatives, so you have to work out the dose for yourself.  The vet told me to give her one tablet, but 1/2 a tablet was plenty.  the poor animal does tend to be squiffy the next day though and their eye sheath tends to stay semi-closed.  I certainly wouldn't want to give my dog a tablet every day.

My second method agreed with the vet, was to give her some milk with a little brandy mixed in so she went to sleep (whether she had a hangover the next day I couldn't say).  I covered all the windows so she couldn't see the lights and put the radio or tv on higher than usual to mar the bangs.

Your last option is to take your pet for a car ride out into the country until you think it is safe to come home.

Hope this helps, good luck to you both.

Clarissa

Wonderful advice Clarisse. I will be trying the brandy and milk with Puck, if she has any problems.  Love AL.xxx

Hello Elaine, nice to meet you. I hope Poppy will be ok. Love AL.xxx

I'm having some success with Mollie putting her in a tightish t-shirt I was told it makes them feel more secure and I must say it is helping. The other thing we do is drape a sheet over the dinning table and pop her basket under there and she makes a dash for safety and then just sleeps through it all.

Getting out for a wee though is impossible and we are having to use puppy pads again this year.

It would help if we knew which nights they were going to go off of course but that seems impossible to predict Frown
