Cats

I love cats so don't want any suggestions to harm them but I am fighting a (currently) losing battle with the neighbours cats in our little veg patch. I can cope with the floral area as we don't tend to put out seedlings etc but we planted our garlic last weekend and have been replanting it almost daily as we find the cloves scattered far and wide where they are digging it all up. Ended up growing lettuces on our window sill in the summer as it was the only way to stop them digging it all up.
So any good ideas that won't harm the furries or indeed any of the wild life would be welcome. |

When I used to write for the newspapers on gardening, this was one of the commonest questions because my readership was mostly urban. One of my readers wrote in that he saved all his rose and berberis prunings, cut them into short lengths and strewed them over his veg plot. I'm not bothered with cats as I'm out in the country, but I tried it, and it worked for rabbits and badgers, so I see no reason why it shouldn't work for cats. Failing that, narrow chicken wire bent into a cloche shape and put as protection along the rows would work. Or both - belt and braces.  |
